Multi-point Training Lead

This lead is designed for use in training, hands-free walking or running with dogs, as a dual lead for two dogs, and much more. It's so convenient for tethering your dog to a post while out on a walk when you stop for a break, or just to tie your shoes. If you want to walk inside a store, you can secure your dog outside the building for a few moments (always where you can see them, of course). This is a handy lead that has so many uses, there's no reason not to have one and fifty reasons why you should.

Long Line Training Lead

Every dog has to start somewhere. You do NOT make the jump from leash to off leash in one fell swoop. A long line, sometimes called a check cord, is the way to give your dog more freedom to move away from you, or you from him or her. Practicing stays at a distance while they are still attached to you is the only way to correct them when they move when you are doing traditional training without the use of shock collars, which we don't advocate. Using the long line in open spaces will allow your dog to run around and drag the long lead for you to easily step on or bend over and pick up, ensuring that they aren't really going to get away from you if they take off after a rabbit or something. I recommend the longest line you can afford to ensure you can catch the line if you've got a fast dog. 50 feet is good but 100 is great!

Vibrating Training Collar

If you have a deaf dog or a dog that moves away from you to do things they believe you can't correct them for, this is a good collar to use! It honestly DOES hold a charge for about a month depending on use. It's fantastic for that dog that is older and cannot hear you or was born deaf. It gets their attention gently. For the dog that needs some extra help with things around the house that are either dangerous for you to physically get your hands involved in -- like fighting with other dogs, this is a safer way to interrupt their behavior so you can correct, redirect, and counter-condition them. I have used this collar personally and have clients using it in certain cases. It's important to use it on the lowest possible setting and turn it up a little at a time only as necessary.

Easy to Moderate Puzzle Toy

The purpose of these is to enrich their world and expand their ability to think and reason, problem solve, and utilize their natural desire to root, use their nose, and paws. Dogs have natural desires that humans often want to control. They are digging animals that follow their noses. This is a basic instinct. Getting made because your dog is digging in your yard is like being upset with a child that is playing. You cannot inherently change your dog's natural instincts, but you CAN channel it into more constructive things. These toys help them self-soothe, calm down, and satisfy the need to use their nose. Did you know that the canine brain has approximately 7-10% of its capacity set aside just for smelling things? They NEED to use it. Puzzles, even when they get so good they do them quickly, are fun and stimulating for them. Encourage them to do what comes naturally in ways that you can all live with. Get them lots of problem-solving games and watch them learn in front of your eyes. Most people have no idea just how intelligent their dog is. This is an easy beginner puzzle for most dogs and puppies.

This is a simple treat ball that any dog can learn to use and love. For herding dogs, this is especially fun, and hunting dog breeds also love chasing their small "prey" around the room as kibble falls out and feeds them. Let your dog work for their food and they'll feel that they have a job. These can keep them occupied for a few minutes at best, but are wonderful distractions and fun for them. When they are really good at it, then graduate them to a larger, harder challenge like the Bob-A-Lot listed below. The added benefit of these toys is that you can also feed them more slowly if you have a problem with a fast eater. Slow them more naturally by making them work for their food!

Bob-A-Lot Interactive Toy

This is a fantastic toy to help dogs use their natural prey drive. It bobs back and forth as they play with it and dispenses food or treats to keep them interested in it. They will feel like they are fighting with a cornered rabbit or squirrel, and dodge, nip, smack, bark, and roll it to get their food. This allows them to release their natural desires to do what they'd do anyway, only now you can control it in a constructive way. It will wear them out mentally, helping them learn to calm down too. For fast eaters, this will slow them down as an additional benefit. With a sliding door on the opening, you can slow down the release of food as they get better at it. I recommend starting with it wide open until they understand how to play with it. For shy dogs, don't give up. Leave it down and put something in it that smells good. It may take them time to learn some self-confidence and begin playing with it, even when it scares them by bobbing back. You want to encourage them to gain self-confidence and this toy can help. For hyper dogs, this can help them focus on something long enough to calm down. I LOVE this toy and my dogs do have one. Even at 11, 8, and 7 years old, they still LOVE working for food and treats.

The Fable is an interactive toy similar to the Bob A Lot but it also has fins on the top of it that are like lick mats--smear some peanut butter, fruit, or yogurt on those to keep your dog licking. As they do, the toy will dispense food or treats. This is like the Cadillac of slow feeders that also works that brain. Remember--20 minutes of using their brain is like moving their body for 2 hours. They WILL be calmer and some dogs even need a nap after playing with these toys. A nap is a great way for them to process the skills they learn, and enjoy the state of their neutral mind. They truly relax after a good "hunt" with these types of toys!

The Fable

Crate Training Aid Toy

This little version of a lick mat is solid and twists between the bars of the kennel so they have a treat they can lick at to help soothe and calm them when you are training them to stay in their crate for short periods of time. Remember that crate training needs to be done in small doses so that they enjoy having their own safe space. They DO NOT need a bed in there or soft plushies. These can be ingested and cause major issues--even death for some dogs if they cause blockages. As a vet tech, I witnessed many surgeries where fiber fill had blocked the intestines, cutting off blood supply, causing the dog to need a resection of the bowels. This is a MAJOR surgery that costs many thousands of dollars and also is not a guarantee that your dog will survive it. Don't risk their lives with soft things that can be ingested. Stick with things like this that are very safe and can't be pulled into the kennel, only licked at. Slip it between the bars of a wire kennel and twist it into place. It should be high enough that they can reach it when standing.

Crate Training Aid

No Chew Spray

This is a deterrent and works well to spray on anything you want your puppy to leave alone. Power cords are one major issue for many people. If your pup chews on the corner of a door frame, on the window sill, on cords, on the edge of a sofa, this spray can help deter them from this habit. In conjunction with deterrent sprays, I HIGHLY recommend that they are also attached to you with a leash while little so you can constantly supervise them. Puppies absolutely should not have access to the entire house without eyes on them. They are babies and can bite into things that harm them, poison them, or shock them. It is NEVER their fault if they do---it's your responsibility to watch them at all times. Remember that fabric should be color tested first, and that these sprays need to be reapplied, they don't last forever. It's also a good idea to spray it on the end of the leash if your pup or dog is trying to bite on their leash. That's not a good behavior to allow. They can chew themselves free in a few seconds if they want to.

This is a relatively kind way to correct jumping for some stubborn dogs. It's the SOUND more than the air itself that startles them and makes the jumping experience not so fun as it was. It's important that you redirect them to a sit as soon as you startle them off of you and be very consistent with this training approach. Most dogs will stop jumping very quickly, but practice with many different people so they understand this rule applies with all humans. Redirecting them immediately shows them what you DO want and then reward them for that to follow up the entire exercise--Interupt, Redirect, Reward! This keeps trainig positive.

Treat Pouches

I am a big fan of feeding your dog their food as reward. This prevents needing a lot of bad-for-them treats, saves you money, and gets them working for their meals like a paycheck! Take a training pouch and fill it with their morning meal and get to work teaching them to follow you, pay attention, come to you, sit when told, and so on. When they realize this is how to earn their food each day, they are honestly HAPPY to have a job that makes them more confident and self-assured, as well as giving them a reason to get up every day. Dogs really do need a job to learn how to behave better and stay motivated. Without a purpose, their life is just as boring as yours would be. Give them a job, help them learn and grow, and watch them blossom! Make sure you take it on walks and use the handy potty bag dispenser built right in! The little net on the front can hold a clicker, a ball, a whistle, or anything else you might need for training while on a walk. It's the ultimate need for training. Get yourself a pouch.

Lick Mat Training/Socializing Aid

Lick mats are great for nervous dogs to give them something to redirect to. The smells will actively engage their brain and tasting new things is part of experiencing new things. Use fruit, peanut butter, yogurt (plain Greek), and other things that can be smeared onto the mats (even tuna or mackerel). This allows them to try new things. Freeze it after applying several different things like a buffet experience, and it will not only last longer but add to their experience as a sensory change. Cold lick mats are a wonderful summer treat after a play session outdoors too. Lick mats are meant to be supervised experiences.

Calming Help for Dogs with Anxiety Issues

I've tried many things with clients over the years. Hemp, CBD and more. They don't work as well as things that include high amounts of tryptophan. This calming aid combines four ingredients in high doses that all work to help calm. They will not have the same effect as prescription drugs but are a first line of defense for people to try training and counter-conditioning to help with negative behaviors that some anxious dogs exhibit. Yak Cheese Sticks are environmentally friendly and safe for your dog. They are very hard, last a long time, and help keep their teeth clean. Dogs often chew for teething as they are puppies and later in life to keep plaque from developing on their teeth. Some dogs self-soothe through the act of chewing on things....this is why a nervous dog will chew inappropriately on things. Giving them a health chew is a better way to encourage them to chew on things that are safe AND keep their teeth clean. I've not met a dog yet that didn't love these chew sticks. Always supervise chew sticks and remove them when not actively chewing. This makes them a very special reward, not something that is an expectation.

Snappy Trainers - Great for Counter-Surfing Dogs

Snappy trainers were designed to be a deterrent for trash can digging, counter-surfing dogs, and those situations where they like to stick their noses in places they don't belong. The snap interrupts the behavior with a startle, then the behavior is "self-corrected" over time. I recommend that you set them up and put something irresistible behind them for your dog to be tempted. Then watch the trainers do their work. If you want to stop a behavior, set them up to do it and get corrected by the behavior itself. Dogs only repeat behaviors that work for them. Stop it from working and being enjoyable and they'll quit doing it.

It is often assumed that a dog will be a strong swimmer. Just like people, that have to learn and build endurance. Any dog can drown. Not all dogs naturally swim. Swimming is exhausting and they can easily tire and go under water. PLEASE, spend the money to keep them safe if you intend to take them on a boat, paddleboard, kayak, canoe, or just swimming. Introduce them to water gently with a vest on so they don't panic, and support them underneath the belly until they begin to paddle. You can teach your dog to love the water, but please take the time to ensure they are safe. I strongly suggest a bright color, rather than the green or purple. They will blend into the color of the water if your dog falls overboard. You want to see them easily. The handle on the back enables you to scoop them out of the water, and three buckles ensure they aren't slipping out of the vest.

Backpack for Hiking and Exercising Rambunctious Dogs

If you have a very high energy dog, one of the best ways you can wear them out is to add some weight to their workouts. Make sure they are healthy, and fully grown before you add weight to the pack, but you can get them used to carrying it as a puppy so they are comfortable. Walking them with added weight can wear them out much more. On hikes, then can carry their own snacks, collapsible water bowl and water bottle. Just adding weight can help calm them down more overall as they expend more energy than usual. Don't EVER make your dog carry more than 6 pounds, even for large dogs. Obviously, less for smaller dogs. Try it!

This is a toy to get your dog moving and chasing. It's a fantastic training aid, but it's also just plain fun! Are you mobility challenged? I've recommended these for my clients who aren't able to physically get their dog doing enough movement by leash walking. This is something you can actually do from a chair or in a stationary position. It's just like using a feather to get a cat chasing. Your dog will chase and tug on the toys. You can get them jumping up and over obstacles, weaving between poles, and having a lot of fun that helps wear them out. This one comes with several interchangeable toys and will last for a very long time!

Whistle to Interrupt Bad Behavior -- Especially Barking!

Interrupt barking with this loud whistle and most dogs stop immediately. I've had very good luck using these with some very barky dogs. It interrupts them so you can redirect. Eventually, they stop doing what causes the whistle to happen. It's shrill and unpleasant for them. When you teach a "No!" and then a whistle, they will eventually stop with the "no!" command. This can also interrupt other naughty behaviors too. Add it to a chain or lanyard to wear around the house and you will easily have it ready to correct barking at windows, doors, or anything else.
